Etsy seller fees explained

Etsy charges three fees on every sale, and a fourth if the buyer arrived through one of Etsy's own ads. The listing fee is fixed. The transaction fee and payment processing fee are percentages of the whole order, including whatever you charge for shipping, so "free shipping" baked into the price costs you exactly the same in fees as charging for it separately.

Verified against Etsy's fee schedule 2026-10-16

US sellers lose roughly 9.8% plus $0.45 on a plain sale with no Offsite Ads. UK and EU sellers pay a higher processing rate and a regulatory operating fee on top, so their effective rate is closer to 11% plus the fixed amounts.

How to pay less on Etsy

  • A $0.20 listing fee on a $5 item is 4% before anything else. Low-priced items are where Etsy is most expensive relative to eBay or Mercari.
  • The Offsite Ads fee is the single largest fee you can be charged. If your shop is under $10k in trailing revenue, you can turn Offsite Ads off in Shop Manager.
  • Payment processing is charged on sales tax Etsy collected on your behalf. You never receive that tax, but you pay 3% on it.
  • Shipping charged to the buyer is fee-bearing at 6.5% + 3%. Charging $8 shipping costs you about $0.76 in fees.

Frequently asked questions

Does Etsy charge fees on shipping?

Yes. The 6.5% transaction fee and the payment processing fee are both calculated on item price plus shipping (and gift wrap). Only the $0.20 listing fee ignores shipping.

Is the Etsy listing fee refundable if the item does not sell?

No. The $0.20 is charged when you list and expires after four months. If you have auto-renew on, you pay another $0.20 when it renews.

What is the Etsy Offsite Ads fee and can I avoid it?

Etsy advertises listings on Google and social platforms and charges 15% of the order total when a sale is attributed to one of those ads. Shops under $10,000 in the last 365 days can opt out. Above that it is mandatory at 12%.

How much does Etsy take from a $100 sale in the US?

On a $100 item with free shipping and no Offsite Ads: $0.20 listing + $6.50 transaction + $3.25 processing = $9.95, leaving $90.05 before your own costs.
